Now in its second year, the IPhO Annual Meeting was hosted virtually on September 11-13, 2020. Nearly 850 participants tuned in, including 600+ students from 111 schools of pharmacy, 150+ sponsor representatives, and 70+ faculty members. Attendance doubled from 2019—which was the first year that the meeting was held in person in New Jersey.
All meeting attendees gathered on Friday evening for an opening presentation featuring leaders in industry, who covered important topics such as navigating this uncertain time as a student preparing for an industry career; the importance of celebrating and encouraging diversity in industry; taking risks and having a courageous career; and more.
Jennifer and Jason, two IPhO student leaders, teamed up to share what sparked their interest in industry, how they made the most of internships and externships during pharmacy school, and how their IPhO involvement is supporting them as they pursue an industry career.
We are excited to share with you the 2021-2023 PPD Clinical Research and Drug Development fellowship.
The PPD fellowship will be accepting two candidates into the fellowship this cycle. The Ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, good organizational abilities, and evidence of leadership and teamwork.
This postdoctoral fellowship program provides training and experience in the conduct of clinical drug trials, participation in clinical research projects under the direction of a UNC faculty member and industry preceptor, didactic instruction in courses that supplement training and professional interests, and exposure to ethical, legal, and regulatory issues in research involving investigational and marketed drugs. Fellows participate in clinical research studies with faculty at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy during the first year of appointment, and with members of a drug development clinical research group (phases I-IV) at PPD in the second year.

The Pharmacyclics Fellowship is a 2-year post-doctoral program located in the California Bay Area which allows a PharmD graduate to gain in-depth industry experience and knowledge within Medical Affairs. The fellowship is focused in the hematology-oncology therapeutic area. The fellow will learn various aspects of scientific communication, medical review, medical information, medical operations, global publications, advocacy, and health economics and outcomes research. The fellow will collaborate with cross- functional groups through AbbVie/Pharmacyclics which will expose fellow to strategy and the opportunity to work in multiple settings.

ESPERION (1 position):
ESPERION is passionately committed to developing and commercializing oral, LDL-C lowering therapies for patients with hypercholesterolemia. Esperion’s core values include collaboration, passion, courage, accountability and people.
This two-year medical affairs fellowship will offer an opportunity to gain extensive experience within a small, highly-collaborative, fast-paced Medical Affairs department within biopharmaceutical industry. The fellow in this program will have the opportunity to get cross-functional exposure within and outside of Medical Affairs, including with legal, regulatory, compliance, clinical development, marketing, and pharmacovigilance.
Esperion has corporate headquarters in Ann Arbor, MI, but primarily operates as a virtual company. The fellowship position will be REMOTE based.
